What you need to Know About Restylane® Injections

In recent years more people have begun seeking injectables like Restylane® as an alternative to more invasive plastic surgery. Restylane® injections are used to combat the signs of aging because they fill in the lines and wrinkles on your face giving you a more youthful appearance. Restylane® is appealing to many because it is made of a substance that is found naturally in the human body.

How does Restylane® work?

Restylane® injections work by filling in the areas around a wrinkle or line to diminish its harsh appearance. Restylane® adds cushion to an area and it also attracts moisture to prevent your skin from drying out. Restylane® does plump up the skin and for this reason it is also used for lip enhancement.

During the Restylane® injection procedure a topical numbing cream is applied to the injection site. Then, a series of injections are made in the area the patient has selected for improvement. After the injections are completed the results from the injections are noticeable immediately. However, the results only last from five months to one year.

Side Effects

There are some side effects and risks associated with having Restylane® injections done. It is not uncommon for patients to experience swelling, tingling, and redness in the injection area temporarily following the procedure. In rare cases some patients may experience bruising and excessive swelling after Restylane® injections.

The appeal of Restylane® to many consumers is the fact that there are fewer risks associated with its use. Restylane® is made of a natural composition and it is not derived from an animal source. This reduces the risk of allergic reaction and makes it a healthier alternative to BOTOX® injections. The effects of Restylane® injections also lasts almost twice as long as similar products like collagen. So, the need for repeat procedures is reduced.
