Improving Respiratory Problems through Rhinoplasty

We have a nose for a reason, the nose is there so that we can breathe and smell efficiently. However, many people do not have a properly functioning nose and that can cause breathing problems, sinus problems, snoring, and headaches. There are many respiratory problems that can be solved through rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty for Medical Reasons

If your nose becomes broken or you have had a nose break in the past you may need a nose job to correct the damage that results. The damage that results from a nose job can be far greater than simple cosmetic damage. A broken nose can lead to scar tissue in the nasal passages and that scar tissue can cause a host of different problems. When you have scar tissue in your nose it can block your airway, cause whistling, lead to excessive mucus secretion and inflammation.

Another respiratory problem that can be corrected through rhinoplasty is a deviated septum. By definition, a deviated septum occurs when the vertical wall between your nostrils becomes twisted, crooked, or displaced from its normal position. This can cause one or both nasal passages to be narrowed.

Rhinoplasty can improve respiratory problems caused by a broken nose or a deviated septum. When you have a nose job to correct breathing problems correction that is done is based upon your own individual problem. Your plastic surgeon may simply straighten out the deviation in the vertical wall of your nose. However, depending on the severity of the damage to your nose you may the doctor may use different techniques. In addition to this, your doctor may need to remove excess scar tissue and some case bone fragment if either is impeding your breathing.

Rhinoplasty to improve respiratory problems can be either a simple or complex procedure and recovery can a difficult and uncomfortable process, but once all is said and done it is worth it to breathe easier.
