Forehead Lift/Brow Lift – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Patients often become very excited when they find out that achieving that smooth, youthful forehead that they have always dreamed of doesn’t require a full facelift, but questions still linger in their minds. This is completely natural and many can be addressed through personal research, with your board certified plastic surgeon filling in the gaps willingly along the way. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about this particular surgical option.

What does the surgery entail?

Brow lift plastic surgery is general started with an upward incision from the ear that goes behind the hairline to prevent a visible scare. The surgeon then removes fatty tissue and excess muscle and pulls the skin taught, moving up the brow line, to smooth out the general area. Lastly, the incision is sutured carefully.

Is brow lift surgery safe?

Absolutely! As long as your plastic surgeon is certified by the board of plastic surgery and has adequate experience and facilities, then things are perfectly safe. Don’t be intimidated by any doctor, least of all one who is in control of your physical appearance. Ask how many forehead lifts he or she has performed, where they went to medical school, and contact the AMA (American Medical Association) for all other matters of public record concerning your physician.

How much does a forehead/brow lift cost?

This is quite possibly the most frequently asked of all frequently asked questions, and an important one at that. Insurance companies are not likely to cover any procedure that is being performed for purely cosmetic purposes, so the price must be paid fully by the patient. This particular procedure runs on average around $3,000 (less than half of the price of a full facelift) but can go up to $8,000, including facility fees and anesthetic costs. Financing is usually available through association with your plastic surgeon’s office and is more likely to be obtained with a down payment and established, good standing credit history.

What is an endoscopic brow lift?

Patients should know that there is a non-invasive version of the brow lift, called an endoscopic brow lift. This is used for less extensive surgery and is done through a few small incisions and performed entirely beneath the skin. The price is about the same as a full brow lift, and the same type of anesthetic is generally used, but recovery time and discomfort is lessened to a degree.
