Don’t Judge a Book By It’s Cover-On Second Thought Do
March 20, 2009
Dr. Constantinides has had the honor of being a Guest Editor for a book on Cosmetic Rhinoplasty, published in the quarterly series Facial Plastic Surgery Clinics of North America by W.B. Saunders. It can be found if you go to www.facialplastic.theclinics.com. This is the current Volume 17 Book Number 1. Below is the Preface to the book written by Dr. Constantinides. We hope that you get a better sense of who Dr. C is and how much passion he has for rhinoplasty:
“Rhinoplasty has evolved more quickly over the last ten years than in any other time of the last one hundred years. Breakthrough to this evolution has been the open technique, where the entire structure of the nose can be inspected accurately and favorably distorted to effect maximal cosmetic and functional change. Today, the operated-upon nose can be stronger and more stable over years than the virgin nose. Minimal excisions of cartilage coupled with adding additional cartilaginous support from septum, ear and rib have allowed unprecedented change, truly allowing plasticity in the result.
The feuds between egos of the past, trading progress in knowledge for divided camps of thought, have been largely supplanted by collegial exchanges of information among disciples of rhinoplasty. It is common today to see plastic surgeons and facial plastic surgeons put aside divisive instincts to share a common stage, furthering exchange of knowledge at unprecedented rates.
Despite all the knowledge that experience has given the field, there is much to still learn. The challenge is to never be complacent and content with our results, but to continue being self-critical and ever-examining our thinking and skills. Technological advances promise amazing horizons of new tissue engineering techniques, further expanding what we will be able to achieve surgically.
In this issue of Clinics are assembled some of the best minds in rhinoplasty today. Some are widely recognized as leaders in the field, while others are the emerging next generation that will break new ground in the future. All have already made a tremendous contribution to our field. Enjoy what they have to teach.

In addition to being the overall editor for the book, Dr. Constantinides discusses rhinoplasty techniques and shares his ideas on what it takes to make the consultation process a successful one for his patients. This enables his colleagues to gain a better perspective on how he incorporates multiple theories regarding business, medical, and psychological components to provide an all around experience for patients, their families, and physicians themselves. This enables them to make informed decisions regarding appropriate treatment options.
Dr. C provides a very unique and thorough consultation experience for patients. He feels that getting to know you not only as a patient but as a person and asking what you want and expect from him is how to get the best results from not only your consultation but from your procedures as well.
Dr. Constantinides welcomes questions and comments to this or any of our other entries that are posted on our website.
