Revision Rhinoplasty Case 9: Revision Rhinoplasty
This New York City woman complained of a flat appearance to the bridge of her nose after nasal trauma. She had undergone primary rhinoplasty abroad at a young age. She required augmentation of her nasal dorsum. Dr. Constantinides performed revision rhinoplasty with an e-PTFE (Gore-tex) alloplastic (meaning artificial) implant. This became infected, as can be seen in the early postoperative photos, and was removed. This case is a good example of why Dr. Constantinides now does not use artifical implants in the nose. He has had three such infections in his 15 years of using them, but now prefers only using natural cartilage and tissues from the patient.
