DR. MINAS CONSTANTINIDES: I graduated from Brown in 1983 and went to medical school here in New York at Columbia University. And I've really stayed in New York essentially since then. I spent two years in general surgery in Boston at one at the Harvard teaching hospitals.

And then I did my training here at NYU in otolaryngology head and neck surgery, did a year fellowship in Toronto with really work renowned facial plastic surgeon, then came back here as Director of Facial Plastic Surgery right after my fellowship.

And I have been Director of Facial Plastic Surgery here at NYU for the last 15 years. There’s nothing more exciting than surgery, period. But plastic surgery in particular is, I think, one of the most challenging types of surgery, especially plastic surgery of the face.

I don’t do anything on the body. I specialize in the face only. And then what’s amazing about that is that small changes to parts of the face can affect the whole face, and make the whole face look better.

Small changes to the nose, we don’t have to do a lot to the nose, just to improve the profile a little bit or improve definition. And suddenly the whole face looks better. The eyes look better. The eyes pop on pictures.

It’s been shown that we decide within less than a second when we walk into a room who we're going to talk to. And so that old adage, “You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression,” really is true.

And what we're able to do with facial plastic surgery is improve the nose, the eyes, the lips, the neck, to make the whole face look better, but natural. The days of overdone surgery really are gone.

And that’s what’s most exciting for me, to see that transformation in my patients’ lives.
