DR. MINAS CONSTANTINIDES: A lot of people come into my practice asking what can be done that doesn't require a lot of healing time, that doesn't require a lot of down time, and that basically doesn't require a lot of surgery.
And so there’s a whole group of operations that can be done that are minimally invasive. Plastysmaplasty, or a minimally invasive neck lift, is one of those things. But in the upper face, we can do endoscopic mid-face lifting.
We can do buckle fat excisions. And we can do forehead lifting, all which require minimal scars. Very often, we'll combine buckle fat excision with endoscopic mid-facelifting. Mid-facelifting is a way to get the whole upper part of the face rejuvenated.
We lose fat as we get older in the upper part of the face. But it’s not as much loss as fat falling forward. So we can lift the fat up and back into the upper parts of the face with an endoscopic mid-facelift.
This is an operation that we make through a small incision above the ear in the hair, and then come down with endoscopes and really raise the lining off the bone all the way down to the mid face.
Then, as we pull that lining back up, not only do we get rejuvenation or filling of the mid-face, we can even get some tightening of the jaw/neckline. And so this is a very powerful operation that’s done through a small incision.
It’s not a small surgery in the sense that a lot of lining has to be raised. But because the lining raising is so deep there’s very, very little bruising. So people are back at work really looking pretty good in about a week, with some makeup on if necessary.
Now mid-facelifting can often be combined with endoscopic forehead lifting. This is for heavy brow or an eyebrow that’s fallen down. And the first sign of that is actually hooding or heaviness of the upper eyelid.
So a lot of people come in and say, well I’ve got this heaviness in my upper eyelid that I don’t like. It’s making me look older. Can we do an eyelid lift? When actually, it’s the eyebrow that has come down and produced some heaviness.
And so what we can do through that approach, a little incision above the ear, the same one that we've used for a mid-facelift, combined with some additional small incisions at the top of the head.
And now we have access to the whole forehead with endoscopes, and we can raise the eyebrows up. And also we weaken the muscles that create frowns in the middle of the eyebrows. And so with that operation, very powerful, beautiful, yet subtle improvements of the forehead.
It’s not something anyone’s going to see as being as being funny looking at all, because all we've done is elevate the eyebrows back to where they belong, back where they might have been six or seven years ago.
So all of this stuff never looks overdone. The pull is so deep you never get a pulled look, just really natural looking.
