DR. MINAS CONSTANTINIDES: When I was trained in fellowship, I was trained as a cosmetic facial plastic surgeon. But when I came here as Director of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, I had to learn a lot of reconstructive techniques, both for trauma patients and for cancer patients who have lost part of their faces to a disease.
What I tried to do is to incorporate cosmetic and aesthetic principles to these reconstructive tasks. And as a result, we can take faces that are scarred or have lost parts of them, and thinking aesthetically, really can rebuild them using really well-known principles of subunits of the face.
I’m really proud about all the work we've done with that. And our residency fellows have really benefited by seeing applications of aesthetic principles in the reconstructive arena.
